Née en 1872 à Murs, Rose Amélie Icard grandit dans une famille modeste avant de partir à Paris, où elle devient dame de compagnie pour Martha Stone, une veuve américaine. C’est ainsi qu’elle embarque, en 1912, à bord du Titanic en première classe. Le voyage s’annonce somptueux, mais le 14 avril, tout bascule lorsqu'un iceberg frappe le paquebot.
Dans la panique du naufrage, Rose et Martha réussissent à rejoindre un canot de sauvetage. À bord, l’officier Charles Lightoller dirige l’opération. Ils sont secourus le lendemain par le Carpathia.
